Singin' In The Rain
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to participate in Biola Youth Theater's production of Singin' in the Rain. This past summer I decided I wanted to join BYT. This was a BIG step for me. Being an introvert, I don't typically seek out situations where I am surrounded by large amounts of outgoing people.
In August I did some workshops to get ready for additions. Again being shy and not liking the attention solely on me, this terrified me! I was reminded of John 14:27, which says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." Reluctantly I went and met some incredible people. This experience encouraged me to keep with my plans to audition for the show.
As auditions continue to approach, the same fear crept over me. God brought another verse to mind, "Perfect love casts out fear." Knowing nothing could ever separate me from His love and that He holds me in the palm of his hand, Brought a great calm over me. Auditions went smoothly and I ended up getting a bit part, the photographer!
In September rehearsal started! In the beginning I struggled to make friends and I questioned why I was even doing this! Never having done BYT before, I had no idea how hard I would have to work. The directors set high standards, but only because they knew we could reach them! It was hard to make every dance step perfect, hit every note right on pitch, and be sure you're blocking is right, all on the first try!
As dress rehearsals rolled around, it seems everything that could go wrong, DID. But through the struggles, our cast pull together to put on an amazing show! In the end it was all worth it! Approximately 200 hours of work paid off in three amazing shows!
I'm so glad that I push through and with God's help, made it to the other side! I can't wait to see what God is going to do with me next!
